Sexual Assault Lawsuit FIled Against the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District
Lawsuit alleges that the District failed to supervise a John Glenn teacher after it was alerted to inappropriate red-flag behavior
Los Angeles County -- October 9, 2024 -- The San Jose, California sexual abuse law firm of Cerri, Boskovich & Allard has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging that the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District failed to properly supervise a John Glenn High School teacher, leading to the sexual assault of a high school student for nearly two years.
Named as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, the student alleges that, starting in the 2008-2009 school year when she was a sophomore, her teacher and ASB advisor Raymond Niemann used his position of trust and authority to groom her for his sexual advances and that he sexually assaulted her during her junior and senior years of high school.
The lawsuit claims that the District failed to properly supervise Niemann after the principal, who was alerted to a love letter written from the victim to Niemann as a result of the grooming, met with the victim’s mother and assured the victim’s mother that she would keep an eye on the situation and/or keep her daughter separated from Niemann.
Following the meeting, the lawsuit alleges that the District failed to properly supervise Niemann, allowing the teacher to continue grooming the victim. Starting in the 2009-2010 school year, the lawsuit states that Niemann allegedly sexually assaulted and engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim.
"My client was recently contacted by the District,” attorney Lauren Cerri said. “In a call with the superintendent, she was told that there was a personnel investigation and that someone mentioned her regarding a close relationship she had with a teacher. She has since spoken with the Sheriff’s Department.”
This is now the third sexual misconduct incident facing the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District in the last few weeks. Norwalk High School Cheer Coach James Austin was arrested in mid-September and the District was hit with a lawsuit from two former students who allege that former Los Alisos Middle School teacher Scott Waln abused the two when they were 11-year-old students.
Attorney Lauren Cerri is asking those with information about Niemann or any sexual misconduct incidents at District schools to call her office at 408-289-1417.
