Bay Area Track Coach Chioke Robinson Arrested for Sex Crimes

Another San Francisco Bay Area Track Coach is facing sexual abuse charges following his arrest. Chioke Robinson, San Francisco State Women’s Track and Field coach, was arrested by San Jose Police on several counts of child sexual abuse. Robinson coached at both Piedmont Hills and Los Gatos High Schools before coaching at San Francisco State.

Robinson is charged with the sexual abuse of four minors, ages 12, 15, 17 and 17. He was arrested by the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force / Child Exploitation Detail (CED).

According to a San Jose Police Department press release, the investigation revealed that between the years 1999 and 2011, Robinson sexually assaulted the victims.

In 2001, Robinson was dismissed from his coaching job at Los Gatos High School. Reports indicate that “head track coach Willie Harmatz apparently defied the school by retaining the dismissed coach, while the school’s principal calls Harmatz’s actions “inexcusable.””

Robinson’s San Francisco State website profile page states, “Before Coach Robinson became a Gator, he had great success coaching club, high school, and professional athletes. He coached 150 State Qualifiers, 40 State Finalists, and 11 State Champions in California. He also coached four Junior World Gold Medalists, one World Team Gold Medalist, and two Olympians.” Robinson is also a self-employed personal trainer.

Earlier in the month, former Valley Christian High School coach Greg Marshall was also arrested for sex crimes. At the time of his arrest, Marshall was working as a part-time coach at Branham High School. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Robinson is reported to have incriminated himself during a police-monitored conversation and text message.
