Reflections on Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Against East Side Union High School District
“Closing a chapter of trauma and receiving closure has enabled me to live life to the fullest.”
Jane Doe 2 was determined to speak her truth and break out of her prison of silence when she retained the law firm of Cerri, Boskovich & Allard to represent her in a sexual abuse lawsuit against the
East Side Union High School.
She wanted to hold the school district accountable because it should have done more to protect her and others from sexual abuse at the hands of track coach Chioke Robinson, a dangerous sexual predator. In fact, the school district should never have hired Robinson after he was fired from
Los Gatos Saratoga Union High School District years before for sexual misconduct allegations.
Like so many other survivors of sexual abuse, Jane Doe 2 lived in silence - afraid to tell her truth for far many years. However, when she learned of Robinson’s arrest in 2019 and fully grasped the full extent of his abuse for the first time, she decided that she no longer wanted to keep her abuse a secret.
She said, “For nearly a decade, I carried the burden of truth in silence because I thought that was the best solution to move forward with my life. As a result, I endured in silence all these years.”
The Story of Jane Doe 2
Jane Doe 2 was a promising young teenager who ran track at Piedmont High School in San Jose. It was there that she met track coach Chioke Robinson. Over the next several years, Robinson would sexually abuse her both on and off school property.
When a mother overheard rumors that this coach was involved in a sexual relationship with another young teenager at the high school, she immediately reported it to school officials. However, like so many school districts, East Side Union High School District did nothing. The administration ignored the mother’s concerns and red flags surrounding Robinson’s behavior. They even failed to report his behavior to the San Jose Police Department, even though they are required by law to do so.
Eventually, Robinson was arrested by the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and charged with 19 counts of sexually assaulting young girls.
Finding Closure & Healing
Like most sexual abuse survivors, Jane Doe 2 was nervous about coming forward. It is painful to relive sexual trauma, and she needed a safe and supportive environment to do so. “Coming forward to hold my abuser and institution accountable was one of the hardest things I ever had to do,” she said. “However, doing so provided me the needed closure to fully heal from my childhood trauma even a decade later.”
She even regained some of her power back by working with Cerri, Boskovich & Allard. “
Lauren Cerri and the law firm truly made this personal journey that only I could go through the most empowering and healing experience with their genuine commitment to justice and accountability. Lauren has dedicated herself to giving survivors like me an opportunity to reclaim my integrity and my truth.”
Closing a Chapter of Trauma
Jane Doe 2 credits Cerri, Boskovich & Allard for regaining her voice. She knows the school and school district failed her, but through her sexual abuse lawsuit, she was able to fight back.
She said, “Whereas my institution failed to protect me, Lauren Cerri advocated for me. Whereas my institution enabled my abuser, she held them accountable. Every step of the way, Lauren gave me hope when I felt hopeless, and she gave me help when I felt helpless. She was the attorney who I knew was in my corner, and she will undoubtedly continue to be in the corner of survivors to hold abusers and institutions accountable.”
By forcing Piedmont Hills High School, the East Side Union High School District, and her abuser to take responsibility for the harm caused to her, Jane Doe 2 was able to move on to a brighter future. She said, “Closing a chapter of trauma and receiving closure has enabled me to live life to the fullest. I will always be grateful to Lauren Cerri and Cerri, Boskovich & Allard for helping me be a stronger and resilient individual.”
