Lawsuit Alleges Gridley Unified School District Failed to Prevent Abuse by Former Teacher Michelle Solis
A lawsuit has been filed against Gridley Unified School District on behalf of a former middle school student who was sexually abused by his teacher, Michelle Solis, during the 2020-2021 academic year. Solis had confessed to the abuse and was sentenced to four years in prison. The lawsuit alleges that the school district failed to supervise Solis and protect the student, John Doe, from predators like her.
According to the lawsuit, Solis exhibited several red flag behaviors that preceded the abuse, including spending time alone with male students, communicating with them outside school hours, sending explicit messages and photos, and isolating students in her classroom.
The lawsuit also states that Solis gave John Doe special attention, inviting him to stay after school under the guise of helping with homework, and arranging for passes to allow him to be alone with her during recess and lunch. She sent him explicit photos and had sexual intercourse with him in her classroom on his graduation day.
Attorney Mark Boskovich noted that the internet has made it easier for predators to access children, and molesters often use online platforms to groom potential victims. Solis initiated contact with the boy on Instagram, messaging him weeks before his graduation.
